About the club

St Michael’s Lawn Tennis Club is set in the heart of Blackrock, Cork, in a secluded and peaceful setting. It is surrounded by old stone-walls, and shares a perimeter with the Blackrock Bowling club. It boasts one of the oldest and proudest heritages in Cork. It was set up in the 1920’s, and has been serving the local community for nearly 100 years.

We have 5 all-weather outdoor floodlit courts and a practice wall. Our club house has separate male and female changing rooms complete with showers and toilets. We also have an indoor table tennis table in our spacious comfortable club house. Our kitchen facilities can cater for the many people that attend our various events throughout the year.

Senior Members

We host numerous internal events for our senior members throughout the year, including Autumn and Spring internal leagues, inter-club friendlies, Wimbledon Ladies Day, Turkey Tournament in December and finishing with the Hot Whiskey morning on December 26th.

Club Night is held every Tuesday evening  (from 7.30pm onwards), where all adult members can enjoy an informal night of mixed doubles at all levels – as well as refreshments and socialising! It’s a great chance to meet other members of the club.

This is also an event for non-members to try out the club before joining. Just turn up with your racquet and a game will be organised for you.

For new members who wish to play competitively, our club coach will grade you in order for you to play in the appropriate grade. St Michael’s enter numerous teams to open competitions such as Winter league, Summer league and Summer Cup. Our Senior Open Tournament is held in September every year and is renowned for being a vibrant and well organised competition.

Junior Members

With a long established membership, the club also includes some of Munster and Irelands finest junior players. In the recent past the club has produced 8 juniors who have achieved top 10 rankings in Ireland.

We have a very strong junior coaching programme that caters for all levels and ages. Coaching takes places in the afternoons during school term, and tennis camps are run during school holidays. Our new coach, Ted Williamson, runs these sessions under the stewardship of the junior committee. See coaching section of the site for more information.
